A 17-year-old boy, whose name is not disclosed, named Usman, is currently evading capture after he reportedly assaulted a five-year-old girl, referred to as ‘Labisi’ (surname withheld), who is the granddaughter of his neighbor in the Foko area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to Saturday Tribune, the incident occurred last Thursday when Usman, known among children as “Booda Ajao,” allegedly enticed the girl with biscuits and then sexually assaulted her.
Unbeknownst to ‘Labisi, Usman, the 17-year-old half-brother of one of her playmates, a four-year-old boy, had been harboring inappropriate desires towards her. On that day, he decided to act on his intentions.
Seeing that no adults were present and his younger brother was playing with ‘Labisi, Usman executed his first plan. He purchased biscuits and peanut burgers, called the two children over, and offered them the treats. The children, excited about the snacks, happily enjoyed them.
While they were eating, Usman proceeded with his second plan. He allegedly took the children into his mother’s room, instructed ‘Labisi to lie down, removed her underwear and his own trousers, exposing himself. He then reportedly knelt in front of her, crouched over her, and assaulted her.
The devastated mother of the girl, Ms. Ishola, 35, recounted the incident to Saturday Tribune, stating: “My daughter usually stays with my mother after school. My mother lives next door to Usman’s family, and my daughter often plays with Usman’s four-year-old half-brother since they are of similar age.
“As I was informed, last Thursday evening, the two children were playing outside when Usman approached with biscuits to lure my daughter, ‘Labisi, inside, followed by his younger brother, without anyone noticing.
“The next day, while bathing my daughter, my mother noticed she was crying and complaining of pain in her private area. This raised alarm bells for my mother, who immediately inquired about what had happened.
“‘Labisi recounted to her grandmother how the teenager had instructed her to lie down, removed his trousers and her pants, and laid on top of her, telling his younger brother to leave the room while he was watching. My daughter explained that Usman had penetrated her with his manhood and began thrusting.
“This account prompted my mother to raise the alarm. The young boy was called in, and he confirmed that his brother had laid on ‘Labisi.”
Upon being called, Saturday Tribune learned that the teenager refuted the allegations of assaulting the young girl, which incited anger among those present, leading them to attempt to beat him.
Ms. Ishola stated: “My daughter has remained consistent in her account since the incident occurred. When I arrived at my mother’s house, I was informed of what transpired in my absence, and my daughter reiterated everything she had previously said.
I could not tolerate the sexual assault on my young daughter, so I took her to the Health Centre, Foko, for a medical examination.
On Sunday, we visited Adeoyo Hospital, Yemetu, where tests confirmed bruises on my daughter’s private area.”
When Saturday Tribune interviewed the little girl, she echoed her mother’s statements, adding: “Booda Ajao was doing like this (making thrusting motions).”
Usman, who reportedly fled after the incident, remains at large. It was reported that the girl’s family approached the Amotekun Corps at the Ibadan South West Local Government Area in Oyo State to file a report.
“We received information that he returned on Wednesday to collect his belongings, but his mother claimed she had not seen him since he ran away,” Ms. Ishola mentioned.
Saturday Tribune also reached out to the boy’s mother, Madam Ganiya (surname withheld), who confirmed her son’s disappearance, asserting that she was unaware of any plans to hide him.
“My son is in SSS3 and is learning a trade. Last Saturday, I was informed about his assault on the five-year-old girl and he was punished for it.
I also disciplined him. On Sunday, he told me he was going to the shop where he is learning shoe sales.
Out of anger, I told him not to return, as his actions were disgraceful. This was because he accompanied us to Adeoyo for the medical examination of the little girl that same Sunday.
I have purchased the medications prescribed for her,” the mother explained. Expressing her discontent regarding her son’s alleged actions, Madam Ganiya remarked that it was unusual since they live in a close-knit community.
“I used to give the girl’s grandmother the key to my room for safekeeping. We are both tenants in adjacent houses. The girl often came over to play with my four-year-old son,” she added.
Usman’s mother insisted, “I did not take my son away to conceal him. If I were in the girl’s position, I would not have reacted lightly either.
I just ask that the government shows me some compassion. I cannot pinpoint my son’s exact location right now. I have been searching for him.
I heard he was in Omi Adio with my mother, and I informed the Amotekun officers. I have urged them to find him and ensure he faces consequences if located.
How could I possibly hide him in my mother’s house after such a disgraceful act?” When contacted, Sikiru Apanpa, the second-in-command at the IBSWLG, confirmed the case report.
He stated that the suspect’s mother was summoned for questioning and advised to locate her son.
