The Landlords Voice Association of Nigeria (LAVAN) has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, citing what it described as “transformative policies” and a renewed sense of hope among Nigerians.
In a statement delivered by its national president, Pastor Falola Vincent O. Ogidan, the association declared its support and while announced plans for a high-profile endorsement event in Abuja.
“It is with immense pleasure and a profound sense of gratitude that, on behalf of our esteemed members, I declare our support for our amiable President for a second term in office,” Ogidan stated. “We pass a vote of confidence on him and his administration for transforming policies and human capital investments that are renewing the hopes of Nigerians.”
The group, which represents landlords and property stakeholders across communities nationwide, said its decision was driven by what it sees as the administration’s commitment to governance reforms and economic repositioning.
According to Ogidan, President Tinubu “has shown confidence, commitment and strong political will to move Nigeria forward.”
He disclosed that the body would host a formal endorsement event in Abuja, where Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who also chairs the Renewed Hope Initiative, is expected to serve as chairman and chief host. The event is anticipated to attract top government officials, including the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, alongside other key political figures.
Positioning its members as critical grassroots stakeholders, the association emphasised its democratic right to participate actively in the electoral process. “Members of LAVAN are stakeholders in every community, voters, and like every other citizen, we have the franchise to support and vote for candidates of our choice,” Ogidan noted.
Beyond its endorsement, the association also used the opportunity to raise concerns over local government autonomy, calling for stronger institutional independence at the grassroots level. Ogidan hinted at ongoing engagements with key bodies, including the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We are in a democratic government; local government must be independent,” he stressed, warning that political actors who fail to align with expected reforms on local government autonomy could face consequences in the electoral process
