The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, has urged Nigerian pilgrims to embrace the values of sacrifice, humility and unity as they join millions of Muslims worldwide in observing the sacred Day of Arafat.
In a message issued on the spiritually significant occasion, the commission described the Day of Arafat as the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage and a moment dedicated to mercy, forgiveness, supplication and complete submission to Allah.
NAHCON said the day serves as a reminder of the enduring virtues of patience, faith and selflessness, while also offering pilgrims an opportunity for reflection, repentance and renewed commitment to righteousness and service to humanity.
According to the commission, lessons from past Hajj exercises have continued to shape ongoing reforms aimed at improving the welfare and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.
The commission noted that Nigeria’s Hajj operations had witnessed significant progress over the years, moving from prolonged delays at transit camps awaiting airlift to a more organised and efficient system.
It, however, admitted that despite the improvements recorded, there was still room for better coordination and service delivery.
“History teaches us valuable lessons, and when we fail to learn from them, we risk repeating the same hardships. But when we reflect on yesterday with wisdom, we are better prepared to build a stronger and more rewarding tomorrow,” the statement read.
NAHCON further assured pilgrims that operational challenges observed during the current Hajj exercise would be reviewed, while identified shortcomings would be corrected to strengthen future operations.
The commission stressed that its establishment was originally aimed at addressing persistent challenges associated with Hajj administration in Nigeria, pledging continued dedication to the vision of its founding fathers.
As part of efforts to ease the burden on pilgrims, NAHCON disclosed that it had successfully renegotiated the cost of feeding services in Madinah, adding that the savings realised from the agreement would be refunded directly to pilgrims.
The commission appreciated stakeholders, partners and pilgrims for their support and understanding throughout the Hajj operations, promising to sustain efforts toward improved service delivery.
NAHCON also commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and leadership, which it said contributed to the successes recorded in the 2026 Hajj airlift and management.
The commission equally praised Kashim Shettima for providing direction and ensuring effective implementation of relevant policies.
It further acknowledged the dedication of NAHCON staff and management, stating that their commitment helped transform operational challenges into successful coordination during the pilgrimage.
The commission reassured Nigerian pilgrims that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure a safe, smooth and seamless return journey after the completion of Hajj rites.
It prayed for Allah’s mercy and acceptance of the pilgrims’ prayers and sacrifices, while urging Nigerians to choose unity over division and wisdom over frustration.
“May Allah grant all pilgrims a rewarding Hajj and safe return to their families and communities,” the statement added.
