Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has described the alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) as a “fraud”.
On Wednesday, the Turaki PDP faction told TheCable that it has formed an alliance with APM ahead of the 2027 elections.
Subsequently, Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, noting that the PDP-APM alliance would enable the former ruling party to field candidates for all positions in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Thursday while inspecting road projects in Abuja, Wike said Makinde is misleading Nigerians with claims of a PDP-APM alliance.
“That’s the 419 we are talking about,” Wike said.
In Nigeria, 419 is a term commonly used to refer to fraud. Wike said there is no alliance between PDP and the APM or any other political party.
“INEC also knows that there is no such thing as a PDP-APM alliance,” the minister said.
Wike said the screening of aspirants by the Abdulrahman Mohammed PDP faction “clearly indicates that the party is independent and not in any alliance”.
“PDP has presented a presidential candidate. Watch out to see the name of the candidate who will be submitted to INEC and see whether there is anything called PDP-APM,” he said.
“What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to be able to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival.”
Wike added that Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi, made no reference to the PDP-APM alliance when he joined the party.
