The Flamingos, Nigeria’s under-17 female national team, delivered a dominant 5-0 win over Guinea in their first leg, second round qualifying match in Abidjan on Saturday.
The qualifiers are towards selecting Africa’s representatives for the upcoming 2026 women’s U17 World Cup in Morocco.
Nigeria’s young team started on a blistering note, with Harmony Chidi, captain of the team, netting a first half hattrick at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.
Nigeria netted four times in the first half against the poor Guineans.
Chidi put Nigeria ahead in the first minute and doubled the lead with a long-range strike on 12 minutes. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, FC Robo Queens striker, made it 3-0 with a low header at the far post, before Chidi rolled the ball under the goalkeeper and into the net from a defence-splitting through ball to complete her hattrick six minutes to the end of the half.
Mary Dunstan scored the fifth and final goal of the encounter to ensure new coach Akeem Busari celebrates his appointment in convincing fashion.
The return leg will be played at Remo Stars’ Ikenne Stadium on May 30.
