Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, on Saturday, was named Premier League Player of the Season.
The Portugal midfielder also won the Football Writers’ Association men’s Player of the Year award this month, capping a campaign that delivered both goals and consistency.
Fernandes equalled the record for assists in a Premier League season when he registered his 20th assist against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
He also scored eight goals in 37 appearances, helping Manchester United secure third place and Champions League qualification.
Fernandes created 132 chances across the campaign, more than any other player in the league. That figure placed him 43 ahead of Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai.
The United captain becomes the first player from the club to win the award since Nemanja Vidic in 2011.
The winner is decided through a combination of public votes and a panel of football experts.
Arsenal’s David Raya, Gabriel and Declan Rice, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Brentford’s Igor Thiago, and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White were also shortlisted.
The award recognises the standout performer across the league each season and has been awarded since 1994/95, when Alan Shearer won the first edition.
Five players have won it twice, while Fernandes is the current holder.
