The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended Mike Ozekhome from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against him.
The decision was reached during the committee’s 173rd General Meeting held on June 23, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Kabir Akanbi, announced that the suspension takes immediate effect while investigations and disciplinary processes continue.
The LPPC, which is responsible for the conferment and regulation of the prestigious SAN rank, did not immediately disclose the specific allegations leading to Ozekhome’s suspension.
Mike Ozekhome, a prominent constitutional lawyer and human rights advocate, was conferred with the SAN title in 1993 and has remained one of Nigeria’s most recognisable legal practitioners.
Further details on the disciplinary proceedings are expected to emerge in the coming days as the committee concludes its investigation.
