Five Indian Air Force personnel have died after a military transport aircraft crashed during a routine flight in India’s northeastern state of Assam on Saturday.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed the incident in a post on X, stating that the aircraft involved was an An-32, a twin-engine turboprop transport plane.
According to the IAF, all five occupants of the aircraft were personnel of the force. The military added that preliminary investigations into the cause of the crash were underway, while efforts to manage the crash site continued.
The accident comes days after a Pakistan Army Aviation Mi-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir during take-off.
Pakistani media reports, citing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said all military personnel aboard the helicopter were killed. The military’s media wing also confirmed that there were no survivors.
Recovery teams were deployed to the crash scene to conduct rescue and recovery operations. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the helicopter crash.
