Segun Aina, a professor of computer engineering, has assumed office as the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Aina took over the reins of the board on Friday from Ishaq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure of 10 years ended on July 31, 2026, at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

On May 21, President Bola Tinubu appointed Aina, who was 39 years old at the time, as the substantive JAMB registrar to succeed Oloyede. He is the youngest person to serve as JAMB registrar.

In a statement announcing the appointment, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, described Aina as “a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform”.

“At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors and will now make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar,” Onanuga added.

‘WE’LL PROTECT JAMB’S INTEGRITY’

In his inaugural speech, Aina vowed to continue to uphold the integrity of the matriculation body, adding that more investment would be made into modern technology to fight examination malpractices.

He warned those behind examination malpractices to have a rethink and know that “their business is in a wrong institution”.

He added that the board under his leadership would also continue to collaborate with security agencies to strengthen the integrity of the matriculation examinations.
