Russia launched a fresh wave of overnight drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, killing at least four people and intensifying pressure on Kyiv just one day before key international talks in Paris aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow to end the war.
According to Ukrainian officials on Sunday, at least four civilians lost their lives in the coordinated strikes, which targeted multiple regions of the country as Russia continued its sustained aerial assault more than four years into the conflict.
AFP reports that regional authorities in the central Dnipropetrovsk region said three people were killed during the attacks.
However, two of the victims died after a Russian strike hit an industrial enterprise in the city of Kryvyi Rig, while another fatality was recorded elsewhere in the region.
In southern Ukraine, a separate Russian drone attack struck the city of Kherson, killing a 48-year-old resident. Kherson Mayor Yaroslav Shanko confirmed the casualty, describing the attack as another assault on civilian-populated areas.
Meanwhile, the United States this week authorised Ukraine to begin building US-designed Patriot air defence systems capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles.
