A wheelbarrow pusher, identified as Ifeanyichukwu Udo, has been killed in a road accident along the Ekwe Street axis of Ikwerre Road, Mile 3 Diobu, in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State on Friday.

The fatal accident occurred when a commercial bus rammed into the deceased, believed to be in his early 40s, while he was standing by the roadside at the Ekwe Street junction.

Eyewitnesses said another pedestrian was also hit by the vehicle but survived with varying degrees of injury.

The victim was immediately evacuated to a nearby clinic for treatment by traffic personnel and operatives of the Nkpolu Police Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ogbuefi King.

Sources disclosed that the driver of the commercial bus, identified simply as Saturday, was arrested at the scene, while the vehicle involved in the accident was impounded and taken to the police station as part of ongoing investigations.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Agabe Blessing-Karbolo, said one person died in the accident, adding that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the crash.
