Tosin, a 28-year-old widow, has been thrust into the spotlight after a viral report accused members of her late husband’s family of threatening and trying to dispossess her only eight days after his death.

Activist Harrison Gwamnishu posted the case on Tuesday on X and the Lagos State Government has since confirmed that a suspect connected with the incident has been detained.

In the video shared by Gwamnishu, a man identified as Tosin’s father-in-law is filmed closing and padlocking the gate of the property, effectively locking her out. Gwamnishu wrote that he stands with “young widow TOSIN” and pointed to the man in the video as her father-in-law, padlocking the gate and excluding her.

He noted that the man has his own house, accused the family of going after the deceased’s assets while disregarding the couple’s two children, and said Tosin has faced threats for bringing the matter to public attention.

He stated that while the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency is expected to intervene, a petition will also be lodged with the Lagos State Police Command, urging the in-laws to move into their own home so Tosin can grieve.

In an earlier account, Gwamnishu said Tosin’s husband passed away on July 20, 2026, after which family members moved into his residence at No. 8 Jumofak, Igbo Oluwo Estate, Koya Adeniran, Ikorodu.

He alleged that her father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and his wife instructed Tosin to put all her and her two young sons’ belongings into one room.

He also claimed some of the deceased’s items had already been distributed among relatives and that there were intentions to sell his car.

Gwamnishu warned that the widow and her children are living in fear and called on the Lagos State Government—especially the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency—to urgently intervene to shield them from intimidation, illegal dispossession and any moves that could strip the children of their late father’s inheritance, saying no widow should have to battle for basic rights so soon after her husband’s death.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency said it became aware of the viral account and promptly contacted the widow.

The agency reported that the survivor alleged threats to her life, physical assault and intimidation following her husband’s death, and that she had reported the matter to the Owutu Police Division.

The agency began liaising with the police handling the inquiry and said preliminary information confirms the alleged perpetrator has been arrested and is presently in custody as investigations proceed.

The statement emphasized the Lagos State Government’s commitment to safeguarding the widow and her children and to working with stakeholders to secure justice in accordance with the law, and it encouraged the public to report domestic and sexual violence through the agency’s official reporting channels.
