Arsenal defeated Manchester City 3-0 to win the FA Community Shield at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on Sunday.

The English Premier League (EPL) champions delivered a dominant display to claim a deserved win over a Manchester City side under Enzo Maresca, their new head coach, for the first time since the exit of long-term coach Pep Guardiola.

Ricardo Calafiori and Kai Havertz netted in the first half while Martin Odegaard, team captain, added a third in the second half as the Gunners won the curtain-raiser to the new season to claim their 18th Community Shield.

Both teams started their big summer signings, with Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes on for Arsenal, while Elliot Anderson started in midfield for Man City, FA Cup winners.
Arsenal kicked off the match and scored 23 seconds into the encounter when Miles Lewis-Skelly put Calafiori through on goal and the wingback slotted home beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma for the opener.

Mikel Arteta’s side doubled their lead on 28 minutes when a deep cross to the far post was headed across the face of goal by Tzolis for Havertz to squeeze a downward header past Donnarumma for a two-goal lead at half-time.

Tzolis was on hand to get a second assist on his debut, finding Odegaard inside the box and the captain jinked past a defender and produced a feint that had Donnarumma sprawling on the turf before slotting into an empty net to seal the 3-0 victory.

Arsenal claimed the Community Shield for the first time since 2023, and their third Shield in six seasons. Arteta, the club’s manager, has also maintained a perfect record with his first as a manager on the day, adding to two wins as an Arsenal player.

Arsenal will begin their EPL title defence against Coventry City, last season’s Championship winners, at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, August 21.
