The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued 75 travellers, including men, women and children, who were abducted by armed men near Folwaya Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state. The victims were travelling in commercial buses when they were attacked on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
According to the police, the attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons, took the victims into a forest and hid them inside a cave in a mountainous area. The rescue operation followed timely information provided by the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
Police spokesman Mansir Hassan said a crack team from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was immediately deployed after receiving the report. The arrival of the officers reportedly forced the kidnappers to flee, abandoning all 75 captives, who were rescued unharmed.
Kaduna Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad commended the NURTW branch and the police officers involved in the operation for their swift response. He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information to help prevent further attacks and kidnappings.
