A 43-year-old Nigerian-British businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has died after undergoing a penis enlargement procedure while on holiday in Thailand.

A UK coroner ruled that the cosmetic procedure led to a fatal pulmonary embolism, according to the Daily Mail on Saturday.

Ubiribo, who was also known as “Tiny”, “Denisi” and “Ego”, was in Bangkok with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, when he underwent the procedure at an unnamed clinic in March.

The Daily Mail reported that doctors injected 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine into his penis as part of the treatment.

Shortly after the procedure, Ubiribo and Allen returned to their Marriott hotel, where they reportedly went for a massage.

He developed chest pain during the massage before losing consciousness twice and being taken by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital.

Although Ubiribo was initially responsive to medical staff, his condition deteriorated. Evidence presented at an inquest at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court showed that Allen told doctors about the recent penis filler injections.

Doctors suspected that he had suffered a pulmonary embolism and recommended a CT scan, but Ubiribo lost consciousness before the examination could take place.

He was later moved to an intensive care unit, where medical personnel carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than 100 minutes in an unsuccessful effort to save his life.

Ubiribo died in the early hours of March 6.

A subsequent postmortem examination in the UK found cellular material in Ubiribo’s lungs that was consistent with the hyaluronic acid used in the procedure.

Pathologist John du Parcq told the inquest that the material discovered in Ubiribo’s lungs matched the substance injected during the cosmetic treatment.

He said the findings were consistent with a pulmonary embolism and were also in agreement with the results of an autopsy conducted in Thailand.

Following the evidence presented at the inquest, coroner Jean Harkin concluded that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the cosmetic procedure.

A pulmonary embolism happens when a blood vessel supplying the lungs becomes blocked. It can become life-threatening by abruptly limiting blood flow through the lungs and putting significant strain on the heart.

Information provided during the inquest by Ubiribo’s primary care doctor in London also covered his medical history.

He had previously undergone joint surgery and had been described as pre-diabetic and suffering from gout. His doctor, however, reportedly said he had no other significant medical conditions.

Penis fillers containing hyaluronic acid are used as a non-surgical option for increasing penis girth, although medical professionals have warned about serious complications that can arise from injectable fillers.

The Daily Mail reported that the procedures can cost thousands of dollars, while the effects of hyaluronic acid fillers typically last several months before the substance is gradually absorbed by the body.

Ubiribo had built a social media following by documenting his affluent lifestyle and had about 185,000 followers on Instagram.

He reportedly owned a home in Los Angeles valued at about $1.1 million and an apartment in London worth about $600,000.

He married Danielle Simba Allen, a fashion designer and socialite, in a lavish ceremony in Zimbabwe in 2022.

Following his death, Ubiribo was buried in London in a gold coffin reportedly valued at more than $600,000.

Afrobeats star Davido attended the funeral and was described as Ubiribo’s childhood friend.

Davido reportedly spoke at the funeral, where he expressed shock over Ubiribo’s death and described him as a man of great energy and presence, saying his death was difficult to accept.

The case has highlighted the potential risks associated with cosmetic penis enlargement procedures involving injectable fillers, particularly following the coroner’s finding that linked the material discovered in Ubiribo’s lungs to the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure.
