What began as an ordinary Friday evening for the Gambazi family in Jos ended in a devastating search for answers after 34-year-old Saeed Saleh Gambazi was found dead several hours after leaving his home.

Saeed, a resident of Rikkos community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, reportedly left home on Friday evening.

He never returned.

As the hours passed, members of his family became increasingly concerned. His phone could no longer be reached, and repeated attempts by relatives to contact him yielded nothing.

By the following stage of the ordeal, the family received the news they had feared most.

Saeed had reportedly been found dead and abandoned around Bauchi Ring Road.

His remains were subsequently taken to the morgue at the Old Jos University Teaching Hospital, where his family later identified and recovered his body for burial.

The first relative to receive information about what had happened was Saeed’s younger sister, Salifa Saleh Gambazi.

She said she called her brother’s number, but instead of Saeed answering, an unknown person picked up.

According to Salifa, when she asked to speak with the owner of the phone, the person on the other end told her to take heart because Saeed had been killed.

She was reportedly informed that her brother had been stabbed in the back and died while being taken to the hospital.

Salifa said she was then directed to the Anguwan Rukuba Police Post to begin the process of recovering his body.

From there, the family was directed to the Nassarawa Police Division before eventually being taken to the morgue.

For the Gambazi family, the circumstances surrounding Saeed’s death remain deeply troubling.

His father, Saleh Abdu Gambazi, described his son as a peaceful, dedicated and focused man whose death had left the entire family devastated.

He explained that Saeed had left home on Friday evening but failed to return that night.

When his phone became unreachable, several members of the family tried calling him, but none of the attempts went through.

His father said he was eventually informed about the death through his wife because he had left his own phone at home.

He described Saeed as calm and jovial, saying the manner in which his son was killed had made the loss even more painful.

Saeed’s mother, Hajaratu Abubakar Aminu, also struggled to come to terms with what had happened.

She described whoever was responsible for her son’s death as cruel, while leaving the matter in the hands of Allah.

She recalled seeing Saeed shortly before his disappearance.

According to her, she was preparing to visit a neighbour who was mourning a relative. Saeed remained at home at the time, boiling water to take his bath.

Before she left, she instructed him to lock the main entrance of the house.

That would be one of the last moments she shared with her son.

The family said they have yet to receive clear information about who was responsible for the killing or what may have led to it.

But the police have reportedly assured them that investigations will continue and that they will pursue those responsible for Saeed’s death and bring them to justice.
