The Nigerian broadcasting industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of seasoned Yoruba broadcaster, Femi Adio, popularly known as Femi Adio Wonder.
Adio, whose broadcasting career spanned over 30 years, reportedly died after a prolonged battle with diabetes. He was 52.
He started working as an independent and freelance presenter on Radio Lagos before moving to Eko FM. He also worked with Paramount FM in Abeokuta, Ogun State before venturing into film marketing.
Before becoming popular on radio, Femi Adio was a professional barber during his youth.
Sources revealed that his health struggles began shortly after he hosted a triple celebration on June 12, 2014. The events, graced by notable figures within and outside his industry, included his 40th birthday, the launch of his radio presentations CD tagged ‘Femi Adio Reloaded’, and Nikah with his spouse, Ayishat Adio.
He later made a public appeal to treat severe diabetes which heavily impacted his finances and mobility after auctioning his properties including cars and houses he had acquired at the height of his career success to fund treatments.
Femi Adio hailed from Iwo, Osun State, southwest Nigeria.
Notable guests present at his triple events 12 years ago were Sheu Jamiu Amioloun; wife of then Lagos State governor, Emmanuela Abimbola Fashola, Hon Dayo Saka Fafunmi, and many more.
He is remembered as one of the distinct voices that defined Yoruba presentation on Lagos radio.
May his soul rest in peace.
