What initially appeared to be another unexplained corpse found by the roadside in Abuja has taken a dramatic twist after police investigators traced the case to a guest house in Gwarimpa.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has said a woman and two workers of the guest house are now linked to the body of a man later discovered beneath the Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed this on Saturday during a briefing at the Command headquarters in Abuja.
The case began on August 26, 2025, when the lifeless body of a man was found along the Kubwa Expressway, in the Katampe area. Prior to the discovery, his family had already reported him missing.
The discovery quickly generated public speculation, with reports linking the death to kidnapping and “one-chance” robbery.
But police investigations took a different direction.
According to the Command, detectives first established that the unidentified body was that of the same man earlier reported missing by his family. The next task was to determine what happened to him before his body was abandoned under the bridge.
A major breakthrough came from a missing item, which was the deceased’s mobile phone.
With the device switched off, investigators began tracking its last activity to establish where it had been used and who the deceased had been in contact with. The trail led them to Mrs Rukayat Muhammed, a resident of Garki Area 2.
Police said further investigation revealed that Muhammed, who is married, had allegedly been in a romantic relationship with the deceased and had saved his contact on her phone as “Safiyat.”
The investigation then led detectives to Good Samaritan Guest House on 2nd Avenue, Gwarimpa, where the duo had reportedly lodged.
According to the police, it was inside the guest house that Muhammed discovered the man was no longer breathing. Rather than alerting the police or hotel management, she allegedly left the premises with his mobile phone.
Several hours later, the situation at the guest house became suspicious when management made unsuccessful attempts to reach the occupants of the room. The room was eventually forced open, and the man’s body was found inside.
What followed, police said, turned the case from a death inside a hotel into a case of unlawful disposal of a corpse.
Two staff members of the hotel, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefas Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the room, transported it to the Kubwa Expressway, and abandoned it beneath the Katampe Bridge.
That act, the police noted, initially fuelled speculations that the victim might have been a victim of kidnapping or “one-chance” operators.
However, CP Sanusi clarified that the cause and circumstances of the man’s death have not yet been ascertained, as investigations are still ongoing.
“The cause and manner of death are still under investigation. Other forensic and investigative procedures are being carried out to establish what actually happened inside the guest house and what led to the man’s death,” the CP said.
He warned that anyone found culpable in the death, as well as those involved in the concealment and dumping of the body, would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
For the police, the case underscores the need for thorough investigation before drawing conclusions about the cause of death whenever a body is found.
For the family of the deceased, the focus of the investigation has now shifted from where his body was found to what exactly happened to him before it ended up under the Katampe Bridge.
