The Oyo State Police Command has brokered peace between the family and associates of the late gospel singer, Toluwanisings, over the disagreement surrounding his burial arrangements, with the parties signing an undertaking to cease all public exchanges on the matter.
The agreement was reached on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, following concerns that the lingering dispute could degenerate into allegations of defamation, conspiracy, and conduct likely to breach public peace.
The singer, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, had been at the centre of public controversy after reports emerged of a disagreement between his widow, Mrs. Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola, and his family over where he would be buried.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Command disclosed that its intervention followed intelligence received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, on October 28, 2026, regarding the dispute and the heated exchanges it had generated across social media and other public platforms.
Worried about the potential for escalation, the Commissioner directed that all parties involved be invited to the Command Headquarters for a roundtable aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order and facilitating an amicable resolution.
Those who signed the peace undertaking included the deceased’s widow, his father, Mr. Muniru Olayemi, his friends and associates – Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo, and Comrade Lawal Ademola Rafiu – as well as the singer’s personal assistant and other family representatives.
Under the terms of the pact, the parties undertook to maintain peace, refrain from any act capable of causing a breach of public order, and discontinue all public exchanges, interviews, and commentaries capable of inflaming tensions surrounding the singer’s death and burial.
They further agreed to immediately stop circulating allegations, narratives, and publications relating to the dispute through social media, blogs, print media, radio, and other communication channels.
The Police Command warned that any violation of the undertaking would attract appropriate legal consequences.
