Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says “18 high-profile looters” outside the country will be extradited in the fight against corruption.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, capital of Kwara state, on Tuesday, Magu said the fight against corruption has just started.
The anti-graft czar, who did not disclose the identities of the “high-profile looters”, said the agency will go after those who looted the country’s treasury.
He spoke 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari asked the United Kingdom to investigate “Nigerian fugitives” who “escaped to the UK” amid corruption allegations.
“The request of President Muhammadu Buhari in London for the extradition of alleged looters is just the beginning of the fight against corruption in Nigeria. We are going to extradite more Nigerians to come and face trial in Nigeria,” he said.
“We will repatriate all looters hiding anywhere in the world. I think there are about 18 of them, I mean high-profile looters.
“The fight against corruption has just started I am telling you. It will be renewed this year. It is going to be vigorous.”
The EFCC chairman said his non-confirmation as chairman of the anti-graft agency will not affect the fight against corruption.
He said he is not worried about his status, adding that God is responsible for his fate.
“I feel great. I am not worried. It is God that appoints and does otherwise. If God says you are holding a position, whether you are confirmed or unconfirmed when it is your time to leave you will leave. I believe very much in that,” he said.
