Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward 8 in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Clement Chiazor, has described the senator, representing Delta North senatorial district of the state, Ned Nwoko as a serial political defector.
Nwoko on January 30, 2025 officially dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a resignation letter personally signed by the senator, and addressed to the ward 8 chairman of the PDP.
In the letter, Nwoko cited disunity, division and factionalisation in the party as the reasons for his defection.
Reacting to Nwoko’s resignation from the PDP in a statement signed by Chiazor and obtained by SaharaReporters, he stated that Nwoko is a serial defector.
He described his defection from the PDP to the APC as laughable and inconsequential.
Chiazor, who chronicled Nwoko’s defections over the years stated that leaving the PDP at this time would have no effect on the party.
He said, “The party had never been affected by Nwoko’s serial defection. Yesterday, I received a resignation letter from Senator Ned Nwoko leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). PDP Ward 8 is an indivisible, formidable, and united big family. Let’s not be distracted. Senator Ned left PDP to APGA in 2003 to contest for governorship position, and PDP didn’t die. Rather, it remains stronger and united until he later found his way back to PDP again.
“In 2011, Senator Ned Nwoko left PDP again to DPP to contest for Senate position and PDP didn’t collapse but rather remained more flourishing until he, Ned Nwoko, found his way back to PDP for the second time.
“In 2023, PDP came to our rescue and gave Senator Ned Nwoko mandate to represent the good people of Delta North Senatorial District in the Red Chamber. Just barely one year and a few months as a Senator, he has left the party again to APC. This is laughable.
“Therefore, we urge our teeming supporters to remain focused, be formidable, loyal, faithful, and committed to the party, PDP. Let us not be distracted.
“It pays to be loyal, for every worker has a payday. We will continue to chart the way forward of our great party in bringing the much needed infrastructural and human capital development in line with the M.O.R.E AGENDA of the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Sheriff Oborevwori.”
“PDP remains the only viable party in Delta North and Delta State in general. God bless our leaders, stakeholders, and our teeming supporters,” Chiazor added.
SaharaReporters learned that after Nwoko’s resignation from the PDP, his mother-in-law, Rita Daniels—former state officer of the party and former aide to ex-governor Ifeanyi Okowa—also resigned from her position as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on women mobilisation and empowerment to the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
“This was a woman who benefitted a lot from the PDP. She massively benefitted financially from former governor Ifeanyi Okowa during the 2023 presidential election with her position as national women leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and she can’t deny the fact because many of us have the records,” a member of the Delta North PDP alleged.
