Ned Nwoko
The Senator representing Delta North, Senator Ned Nwoko has revealed that his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was due to his inability to work with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Nwoko, officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on January 31, citing deep divisions and factionalism within the PDP, which according to him was the main reasons for his exit.
He stated that the internal crisis within the party had become irreconcilable.
Reacting to claims by Governor Oborevwori’s aide, Fred Oghenesivbe, that he left PDP out of fear of losing his 2027 ticket, Nwoko dismissed the allegation.
“I left because I want to be able to get the support of the ruling party in the creation of Anioma State.
“The governor and Okowa, who are PDP leaders, are against the creation of Anioma State.
“I sought support from PDP at the national level, but they are entangled in destructive internal conflicts and have failed to provide leadership”, he explained on Monday.
According to Vanguard, Nwoko further accused Governor Oborevwori of sidelining him.
“The governor ensured that I wasn’t allowed to function. He dismissed all the projects we discussed during the campaigns, citing a lack of funds. The Okpai power plant and Ogwashi-Uku dam are examples.
“I was not allowed to nominate any board members, commissioners, or local government chairmen. I had to join the ruling party so I could attract projects to my constituency. Time is running out.”
In response, Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, stated that the PDP would not miss Nwoko, noting his history of party defections.
“Remember, this same person defected to APGA in 2003, and PDP won the election. In 2011, he defected to DPP, and PDP still won.
“Now he has left again, but we are not bothered because PDP will win the Delta North senatorial district in 2027,” Aniagwu said.
He added, “Our focus is on governance. This is not the time for politics, but when the time comes, PDP will still win.”
