Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders on Sunday endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term and also backed Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat as the next governor of the state.
Those present at the event included Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi; former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello; and leaders of the Renewed Hope Network (TRN), led by its state convener, Rt. Hon. James Faleke.
The endorsement took place during a special congregational prayer organised by the Renewed Hope Network in honour of Tinubu and Hamzat at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
In his opening remarks, Sanwo-Olu described the turnout as a clear show of support for Tinubu’s re-election and Hamzat’s emergence as governor.
“I am happy with this massive turnout and show of love. The number of people outside the complex is far more than those inside. I thank you all.
“Let us support our candidates for Abuja and Marina. Let us re-elect President Bola Tinubu and support Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.
“On behalf of Tajudeen Olusi, I endorse President Bola Tinubu and Obafemi Hamzat as candidates of the All Progressives Congress. This means we have all endorsed them.
“This endorsement has gone to the entire country. We have endorsed Hamzat as the incoming governor of Lagos State,” he said.
Convener of the Renewed Hope Network (TRN), Rt. Hon. James Faleke, said Tinubu had earned continued support through years of service and leadership.
According to him, the Renewed Hope Agenda remains strong because it is anchored on the rule of law, loyalty, and commitment to national development.
“Today is a unified session. This shows Lagos is united on all fronts. I am surprised by this turnout. Those outside are more than those inside.
“I appreciate everyone for standing by the party. Lagos is APC and will remain APC. There is no opposition party in Lagos,” he said.
Faleke added that although the Renewed Hope Agenda was initially dismissed by some as a political slogan, it has begun to reflect in governance outcomes.
“But today, we see the seeds of a new Nigeria being sown. We see a President who is not afraid of hard decisions.
“The removal of fuel subsidy was a bitter pill that had been left untouched for decades. Past leaders knew it was necessary but lacked the courage to act.
“Our President took the bold step on his first day in office, despite the consequences. That decision saved the nation money and redirected resources for development,” he said.
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello urged Tinubu to sustain his reform efforts and continue providing leadership for the country, assuring him of Kogi State’s support in 2027.
“I am here to express our appreciation to President Tinubu and the people of Lagos State for the work being done in this country.
“You cannot be tired. Please continue to provide leadership for Nigerians.
“When the time comes, you do not need to campaign round Kogi State. The state will be delivered 100 per cent,” Bello said.
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, described Hamzat as competent, experienced, and committed to the party.
Responding, Hamzat thanked party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
“We are here to endorse President Bola Tinubu for another term and to also endorse my candidacy.
“We must thank the President for giving us direction and the opportunity to continue the progressive work we are doing.
“It is important for everyone to come out on election day and deliver the state to President Tinubu in the next election,” he said.
The prayer session featured Islamic and Christian clerics who offered prayers for peace, political stability, and security in Lagos State and across Nigeria.
Among them was Sheikh AbdulRahman Lawal of NADWAT Global Assembly, who prayed for peace in troubled parts of the country.
Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State chapter, Rev. Dr Stephen Adegbite, also led prayers for Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, state officials, and the nation.
