A 32-year-old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly subjecting her seven-year-old daughter to severe physical abuse, including injuries reportedly inflicted with a hot knife.
The incident occurred in Ibollo community, Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The victim, identified as seven-year-old Oluebube Ofoma, was allegedly assaulted after she was accused of taking meat from a cooking pot.
According to the police, the child was rescued following the intervention of community security personnel and concerned residents, who also helped facilitate the arrest of her mother.
The incident was reported to the police on the evening of Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Confirming the development on Monday, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was arrested in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
Ikenga said the command had condemned the alleged abuse and would ensure that the circumstances surrounding the incident were thoroughly investigated.
“The Anambra State Police Command has strongly condemned the alleged brutal abuse of a seven-year-old girl in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area and has reaffirmed its resolve to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” he said.
