Two women and three men have been arrested by the South African police for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 25-year-old e-hailing driver in Cape Town.

The two women, aged 23 and 34, allegedly raped the driver after he was kidnapped when he went to meet one of them, whom he had met through his e-hailing business.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) disclosed this in a statement posted on its X handle on Sunday.

According to the police, the victim had met one of the women the previous week while carrying out his e-hailing business.

The two exchanged telephone numbers and remained in communication throughout the week before arranging to meet.

Police said the woman and her accomplices kidnapped the victim when he arrived for the meeting.

“Steenberg police rescued a 25-year-old e-hailing driver after he was raped and held at ransom by two female suspects and three males yesterday,” the statement said.

The suspects allegedly contacted the victim’s brother and demanded R4,000 for his release.

The police said the victim was later traced through the tracker in his vehicle and found at Southampton Road in Heathfield.

The other suspects are three males aged 16, 42 and 48.

SAPS said the five suspects had been arrested and were expected to appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 14.
